Farmcenta was at the Meet The Farmers Conference which held at The Address Hotel, Dubai Marina, Dubai between 27th to 28th November, 2019.
The theme of the conference was ‘Creating a Sustainable Future’ and it was the largest gathering of Agro stakeholders in Africa and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) with the aim to open opportunities for Investors in the region to meet African farmers and agricultural stakeholders in a bid to increase food security and promote trade and technology exchange across both regions.
Our CEO, Ademola Akinyemi spoke on Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security at the Panel discussion during the conference.
Sustainable development is the development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet various needs.
Statistics tell us that the country’s agricultural sector is dominated by smallholder farmers who lack knowledge of modern practices and have insufficient capital. This has led to the poor status of most of the rural farmers living below the poverty line ($1.5).
The narrative needs to be changed by looking at the world differently. Sustainable agriculture is a practice in different agricultural value chain that has minimal effect on society. It is about improving the lives of everyone, everywhere and achieving all these things together without harming the environment.
Great work needs to be done to lift our farmers out of poverty. We are in this space to contribute our quota to enable the increase in the standard of living of these farmers and enable them to practice sustainable agriculture, that way we keep learning to meet up with the world’s standard.
