Farmcenta, Setting New Grounds in The Agri-Tech Space

Farmcenta is an Agri-tech startup that seeks to improve rural farming by addressing farmer’s critical farming needs such as mechanized tools, high yield seeds, training on climate-smart agricultural techniques as well as off-taking farmer’s harvest to increase food production in Nigeria and Africa.

Our vision is to be the best Agri-tech innovator in Africa, empowering rural farmers, increasing food production, and ensuring food security.

Our mission is to provide an opportunity for everyone to support The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2: which is ‘Zero Hunger’.

We kicked off October 2018; since then, we have been able to empower over 1000 rural farmers in 4 states (Oyo, Niger, Kaduna, and Kano) in Nigeria. We currently have four (4) agricultural farms around the country (maize, rice, ginger, and cattle farms).

Rural Farmers Empowerment Scheme:

Our empowerment schemes do not only cover the supply of farm inputs to farmers to multiply their yield, but we also have an investment platform where investors invest a certain amount of money to provide farm materials and data to run the farm cycle till completion. The farm investment cycle usually lasts for six months. When the farm cycle is completed, profit is split into three, where each of the investors and farmers gets 35% of the benefit, and Farmcenta receives the remaining 30%.

Our Farmlands/Products:

We are currently empowering rural farmers in Niger State by off-taking harvested rice paddy in large quantities from them for processing and packaging for the premium market. Access to technology and training programs are given to these farmers to expand their knowledge and give them more insight into their farming practices for free. Farmers learn how to organize and cultivate their farmlands better; harvest their farm produce in a better way to reduce significant losses, and so on.

Ginger processing started in March 2019 to export to the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) market. We are partnering with rural farmers by off-taking ginger roots in large quantities, process into different specifications requested by the off-takers. We connect the farmers to premium market: these farmers depend on off-takers like us to buy their farm produce so that they can use the profit to expand their farm landmass, thereby expanding their production outputs and earnings in the long run.

Our cattle farm is sitting on over 10 acres of land with over 500 bulls in the ranch. Our cattle are fattened to the desired kilogram (kg) and later sold off to off-takers for beef and other purposes.

Investment Capital:

It’s barely two years since we kicked off, and we have grown and expanded at a rapid rate. From inception to date, we have raised over $2 million in investment capital; this is a landmark in the Agri-tech space, and it shows our persistence and commitment to thrive and make an impact in the Agricultural sector.

Objectives for 2020:

In the year 2020, we plan to double our figures. We will be expanding the production capacity of each farm, thereby increasing production output and increasing profit yield. Procedures are already in place, and some have commenced. For instance, we will be empowering more rural farmers by expanding operations to more states in Nigeria, looking at Kwara, Kano, and many more. We will be fattening and selling off thousands of cattle this year. We are doubling our ginger export ratio and penetrating more foreign markets in Europe and the UAE (United Arab Emirates). We are also working towards our rice processing partnership with Lagos State Government to increase rice production and ensure food security.

Empowering rural farmers, ensuring food security, and promoting zero hunger are our goals, and we will stop at nothing to achieve this.
